thelocal.se — A 75 year old woman from central Sweden has been thrust into the IT history books - with the world's fastest internet connection. Sigbritt L?thberg's blistering 40 Gigabits per second connection means she can enjoy 1,500 high definition HDTV channels simultaneously or download a full high definition DVD in just two seconds.

Does anyone know how much this connection is costing her!?!?! It has to be unbelievably expensive. I would recoup the cost by running a data center out my basement.

I am just wondering what Kind of HOAX is THIS.Many fact in this story does not play along.Lets take example of the story from: <a class="user" href="http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-19010-What-is-the-fastest-internet-connection-currently-in-existanceanywhere.html">http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-19010-What-is-the-fastest-internet-connection-currently-in-existanceanywhere.html</a>There are bunch of guys from CALTECH and CERN barely reaching 7Gps.Right the distance is 10000 miles. This guy was able;e to set up 40gbs from grand ma house to routers distance 1540 miles. The processing speed and the LAN card the end station had to use is frankly , well she has to have a very supped up server running home. Then the factor of routers and switches along the way, Not every ISP has a backbone with a higher speed that currently proposed standard of 40Gps (not accepted yet).OC 768 (39.813 Gbps) is not a small line but a big fiber optic cable. So once again.Grandma with Networking son is having better resources that 2 top institution.YAEH-Right Just use a common SENSE.

"High Definition HDTV" = "High Definition High Definition TV""ATM Machine" = "Automatic Teller Machine Machine""CSS Stylesheet" = "Cascading Style Sheet Stylesheet"

Just to remind everyone before they get all wet'n juicy about this bandwidth ... if you do your math then 40 Gigabits is 5000 MB/s being passed through in a second and there is NO storage device in the WORLD that can write that much data in ONE second, the fastest it will get with current technology is probably 125MB/s to 150MB/s sustained data being written which equals a 1Gbits connection on a PC, NOT to forget that the fastest Network Cards available for PC computers are the Giga-Ethernet which are limited to a 125-150Mbytes/second !! Sorry guys !!!!

What is the Computer (make, model)? Plus how do we get that broadband? I want it! :P

Fiber-optic's about the fastest we can get in the USA, and that's not available most places.I think that has a speed of around 50 megabits per second standard.

Hmm, that's either like a 5 (dollar foot looonng) mile thick internet cord or over 500 Ethernet cords.. That's not fair.. 20Gbits/s is extremely painful lag to her. For how much, did it cost? I mean, cmon, 40gbits/s........
