showusthecode.com — We're requesting anyone involved in the Linux communities & companies to stand up & demand that Ballmer show the world where Linux violates MS's IP. This is a challenge & when answered, Linux devs will be able to modify the code so it remains "free" software. If such code doesn't exist, the bluff will be called & many companies can rest soundly.

I don't like Ballmer or Microsoft's attitude any more than the next guy. I wouldn't dig down this story because the point still needs to be made. But, I'm not sure why you're being dug down, you really hit the nail on the head with your points.Microsoft is using a reputation of linux they already have full control over, because their audience is already captive.

@kevin45:Um. I think your usage estimates of Linux are a bit misinformed. There's an average of about 100,000 new unique IP connects to Fedora's Yum repository per week alone - which essentially means 100,000 people who are at least trying out Fedora. Since Fedora doesn't come in 'live' install, these are people who've set aside partition space for their experiments.According to more than one source, including Ubuntu's dpkg repository, there's over 8 million Ubuntu users.Counter.li.org has 150k registred linux machines and an estimate of 29M linux worldwide. So, at the low end, I'd say there's 6M Linux users out there, and on the high side, probably about 30M.Where are they? They're very likely right next to you. Fortunately, being a Linux user doesn't do anything bad for your productivity, skin health, weight, or anything else that's associated with being a 'linux nerd'.Trolling.... Denied.

This is one of the smartest moves of the Linux community, that is IF this open letter gets a lot of support by thousands of linux-based companies, and it gets publicized considerably in media sources. The idea should not to get Ballmer to reply. f**k that guy. The idea should be to get press coverage.

I do believe they're talking about citing the bits of Linux that are in violation. We probably wouldn't even ask questions; we'd just redevelop the puzzle pieces to fit where the old one went. Hell, they don't even have to touch the reverse-engineered stuff (Wine, NTFS, Samba), since that's covered by the same rules that lets Windows have a GUI and PCs have a BIOS.Just, you know, anything pulled from MS sources. Which I doubt exists.

I am sure Mr. Steve Ballmer is a good guy and has only good intentions ... but once in a while he forgets to take the medication and starts jumping or saying ridiculous things. However ... is a common practice for the thefts to yell that they have been rubbed. ... and Mikeysoft has this practice on it's blood ... remember Apple Mackintosh! What Mr. Steve Ballmer does not realize is that by these kind of statements he glues millions of *nix people together and for this we are thanking him.

The author of clause has mentioned and has opened excellent and a vital topic presently. Clause is written interestingly and the main thing actual. The same theme on Russian sites: <a class="user" href="http://pivo.in.ua">http://pivo.in.ua</a> <a class="user" href="http://www.alcogol.kiev.ua">http://www.alcogol.kiev.ua</a>
