time.com — The lunch lines weren't fast enough for the head of food programs at the Boulder Valley school district. Kids had barely enough time to sit and eat before the lunch period was over. Then a new technology was discovered that would allow a scanner to identify a kid qualified for lunch with the swipe of a finger. It turned out to be the perfect storm.

That's not far off from what my elementary school did 14 years ago, only the cards had barcodes instead of prox cards. But I love your prox card idea--I think kids would find it cool, too, that you didn't have to touch them to the reader.

Except minus the lanyard, kids are both active and stupid, one would strangle himself somewhere and the parents would enjoy vacations to Tahiti for the rest of their lives on your tax dollars after the lawsuit.

I would not fingerprint but rather use a retinal scan, This type of security has its benefits such as when it comes to role and what student being able to access what. Plus we all know about its downturns. I would recommend these methods be implemented in big school and we have to think you don't want all this info going outside the school. I believe the solution to end all school violence starts at home with the parents! (we would not need these security measures)
