Make sure the company providing the extended warranty is reputable. Guy at the office has spent several hours on the phone with the extended warranty people, the TV manufacturer, and a lawyer because the extended warranty provider was basically saying that because the guy didn't register the warranty, it's invalid (a technicality; he bought and paid for the warranty so it's not like they can just say "Screw you, deal with your broken TV by yourself."). After crying foul and bringing a lawyer in on the action the TV manufacturer approved his RMA and all that jazz, so be prepared ahead of time with information on the warranty, its provider and its terms.
