arstechnica.com— ...if you're looking to buy an HDMI cable just pay attention to the fact that there are stores that will rob you, and others that won't.

@cbrophy78omg.. I sure hope your being sarcastic. I hate monster. It's all funny to point and laugh at all the morons that buy them, but when your 80 year old grandmother who is on a fixed income tells you she bought one because the 20 years old rca cable she had went bad from all my cousins yanking the thing out to play xbox and that's all best buy carries, you feel like someone just got robbed. Honestly, I felt like she had gotten scammed.
To me cables are very important. I spent $4,000+ on my TV so why would I not buy a high quality cable and spend the extra doe on it. I want the best picture possible since I spent good money on a TV to produce the picture I want so I will spend the money on cables b/c in the pass I went cheap and I never got the quality I wanted until I switch to the high end ones. But that is just me I know everyone has different experiences and that's cool too. Just make sure you get it quad shielded and 24 AWG, plus the kind of new standard now is HDMI 1.3 so make sure you get a cable with that too. You can go cheap not saying you should not go cheap but you get what you pay for most of the time...at least in my experience.
Ebay for the less common cables, Newegg all the way for everything else. Damn, those guys are great. (No, I don't work for them, nor care specifically about them). But damn, they're good. I can't believe how many non-tech people (family, friends mostly) tell me they bought their cables at Bestbuy or some nonsense.. usually at 6-10x a reasonable price. A friend of mine recently bought an HDMI cable for his XBox at BB for something like $80 (it was fairly long).. I showed him virtually the same cable for about $12. He made a BB return promptly. And, yeah, since HDMI is digital and pretty hard to interfere with (even the cheap cables are shielded -- err, maybe not the 99 cent specials) it won't suffer the same degradation as crap analog cables (e.g. cheap RG6 cable). It'll work or it won't, pretty much.
cablesys.com is actually selling their 3ft HDMI cables for $3.50 when 10+ purchasedjust add 10 cables to the cart and you will see it during check-out!!!!!great deal~
