arstechnica.com— Time Warner Cable is planning to roll out usage caps for some of its broadband customers. It's a short-sighted idea, and one that the company may regret in a couple of years.

seriously, it has been a 'trespassing' issue till now (and easy to beat- trespassing must be knowingly committed). Next it will be a theft of services.Sorry Marc Jacobsen I will try to fix my laptop to use my own wireless!
Anyone who has Time Warner now should switch. Don't wait for them to move forward with it, dump them now and make them pay for even thinking about doing such a bastardly thing.
Satellite does not compare to cable in the slightest. If you have any reason to connect to remote application services or a VPN the latency will not allow it. This doesn't meant satellite is slow, it's delayed.
In America you can thank the infrastructure owners. The competition that exists between companies is not about gaining and keeping customers. It's all about who owns the lines, the right aways and keeping the competition away from them while loading the circuits with just enough users to keep the service for sale without having to spend to expand.

I know I'd get Dish if they put this into effect.

Thats the problem, most cities only have one or two choices for broadband, so there is no real competition.
