Well, I for one feel far safer in Shanghai than I do most cities in the US. I'm not sure why.The back streets do have some garbage, sadly the zoo looks like a garbage dump.But honestly Shanghai is not a bad city considering it's vast population.Actually I guess the thing I notice most about Shanghai is how really non international it looks compared to any American or European city I've been to. Population is probably 99.95% chinese. I stick out like sore thumb everywhere there.
Shanghai is split into 2 parts, Pudong and Puxi, The names mean "East of the river" and "West of the river" respectively. It's true that Pudong was all farm land 15 years ago, but to say that one of them is the real Shanghai and the other is not is kind of dumb.Also, I'm pretty sure no one would say Brooklyn is not NYC.
