wired.com— Shadow of the Colossus for the PlayStation 2 is arguably this year's best video game. This is a cool review from Wired. The Warriors is a cool game too. I have ADD.

well, shadow of the colossus may not be THE best game of the year, but it certainly is one of the them. plus, that's not even what the news is about! it's about how the game took a colossus (i dont have any better puns) step forward in innovation, ingenuity, and originality.HL2 brought nothing new to the genre (except its heavy incorporation of physics in its gameplay). same thing goes for FEAR (bullet-time? gimme a break! a little girl who runs around giggling in the dark just to create a scary environment in an urban setting? *yawn*). resident evil 4 on the other hand brought a new light to the survival horror genre which in my opinion, definitely needs a breath of fresh air.looking at SotC... well, to shorten my opinion of it's originality/ingenuity/inovation... name me ONE game that has even the most slightest similarity to this game, in every term and aspect of the game (excluding ICO, of course).
The gameplay is just too shallow to compete with other uber-titles this year, namely Resident Evil 4. It's artsy and beautiful, and quite fun at times, but beyond that is in no way running for GOTY.
SotC is a pretty sweet game but I don't understand why anyone would say game of the year... The graphics are good for PS2, but in the grand scheme of things the graphics look pretty crappy IMO. I mean it's not their fault it's just the limitation of the PS2. Very pixelated and like 20 FPS. Of course I'm used to PC games, one of my friends has this game and I've been watching him play it from the beginning, he's like half way through it now. The environment is very well done. I like the feeling of isolation and how amazingly HUGE the giants seem to be. Sometimes the isolation can be a bit annoying though, I mean like sometimes there's 20 minutes where you're running around trying to figure where the hell to go, it'd be nice if there were some enemies around every once in a while so you could at least get some target practice in, ya know? The only thing you ever see is those damn lizards. :)
Ico was revolutionary for it's time and still is a great adventure/puzzle game. If this game is anywhere near as good as Ico, it deserves to be game of the year. At least, these guys are doing something different and have their own style. I'm so tired of all of these games that are completely the same repackaged pieces of s**t. It's almost as if now since there is a huge fanbase for video games, the video game industry has become as bad as the movie industry when it comes to the bulk of all games made. Yes, it may be weird because it's different, but games like this are the type that lead game development in a new directions.
This is a great game as it provides definately something new and innovative, something that Gamecube owners say that their system does all the time (when it really hasn't for quite some time)
SotC was indeed a simple yet innovative game in itself. It successfully combined all aspects of gaming from music to design. Both RE4 and SotC get my vote for game of the year.
I love this game, got it yesterday and I'm on the 7th colossus, the game TAKES ADVANTAGE of the ps2's limited graphic ability by blurring it all together when changing camera angle fast... the entire style of the game is incredible... and the collosi are insane,I think i still like 3 and 5 best so far.

Ico was the first videogame ever to make a 26 year old black man shed a tear.
