They should really remake this game for the PS3. The vistas would be amazing! I just found out about this game and watched IGN's video review. Very cool, but it could be disappointing to go back and play it at this point.
The original was made by Snake, over at Pixelation (www.pixel-arts.org/pixelation). Yes it is pixel-art - 100% hand made, possibly in MS paint, but more likely Promotion or photoshop.Karted has obviously just resized it for wallpaper, and to be honest, made it look ugly.
The original artist is Snake from the Pixelation forums where this was submitted in a secret santa arrangement. It is completely made in pixel, and Karted just photoshopped a bigger version.Please give credit where it's due!
