foxnews.com — ANNAPOLIS Sex offenders in Maryland have begun receiving paper signs in the mail that read "No candy at this residence," which they must post on their front doors or possibly face a parole violation. Some bottom-feeding groups are challenging the state law in federal court.

Zubata, Jehan is either a sex offender or has connections to someone convicted of that crime--OR they are the most naive person on the planet. Jehan--yes, actually, I DO have stats on the infrequency of the number of registered sex offenders whose conviction was statutory rape among the total number of sex offenders and while those individuals rarely re-offend, Stats on sex offender recidivism is well over 95%, which means that virtually every OTHER offender WILL and DOES-since those convicted of SR are included in the stats. If you did just a simple google search of this on a government website, you'd probably change your tune completely.I've worked for over 20 years in the field, treating victims AND sex offenders. I must tell every person who reads these comments that your statement of "maybe they wouldn't have committed the crime if they knew they couldn't hand out candy, so now, someone that committed a crime in '85 is made to suffer even more" is the absolutely most ludicrous thing I have EVER read on a post about ANY topic. I am shocked and dismayed that a person with the intelligence to even READ and WRITE could make such an outlandish comment. Rev. Jon, you and I have gone round and round about this topic before-folks, and as I've pointed out before, his comments indicate that Jon's also either an offender or close to individuals who are--an actual reverend would be versed on the DIFFERENCES between 'sympathy', 'mercy', 'compassion', and 'consequences'. Offenders pretty much do get 'mercy' (unmerited favor) because they often do NOT receive what they deserve in the way of punishment. Additionally, 'punishment' and 'consequences' are two different things as well. This little sign is a consequence of their choice to offend-same as other conditions of their parole. Punishment would be their incarceration or probation. Good point, Zubata, about the comparison of predatory behavior to a minor traffic violation! --you notice they didn't even make it reasonable like putting a black box on someone convicted of vehicular manslaughter due to DUI multiple times-(virtually 100% of ALL sex offenders, whether violent rapist, pedophiles, or child molesters, have offended more than once, either with the same victim or multiple victims)While I understand the logic behind using speeding in your comment-it is just not a valid comparison. Your comparison would better have said it would be the government was making every single MAN in a community put one of these signs on their door--not those CONVICTED of sex offenses already. I have no problem at all having social networking sites monitored. Only those individuals who show some pattern of questionable associations with KNOWN terrorists are secretly monitored. I'm pretty ok with them perusing what I put on the net if it means they'll catch someone trying to bomb us again.

Momofour, I agree to your views. I agree that they should be constantly monitored and their where abouts be made public. Once you abuse a child you lose all your rights. Personally I think people like that should be shot. But thats my opinion. Out here in the peoples republic of california they removed the statutory rape law by making it a sex crime for anyone to have sex with anyone under the legal age of 18. Unless of course you are within 2 or 3 years of the persons age you had sex with and are NOT over 18 and the act was consensual In short they raised the age of consent law. No matter how hard you try no one is going to be able to prevent two kids from having sex if they want to bad enough. So I dont see why they should have their lives screwed up for consual sex. The only thing you can do is educate them and give them birth control means and hope they can make the decission to hold off from doing it. As for real child praditors I dont have any sympathy for them what so ever. I think any adult that commits a sex crime should have their balls or overies removed or shot.

When I made that statement I was referring to a fact that many legislators that work feverishly to pass sex laws have been caught doing the act themselves. It is no different then saying that I must be a sex offender because I think the registry is useless! The fact is that you may or may not find a sex offender in your town that is still offending using the registry. However, using good parenting and educating your children regarding whom and what they should do will protect your family from all crime.Another point I like to make is the registry only contains the ones that have been caught what about the 90 percent that haven't been caught?I think that placing all the attention on the system it creates a false security and will only expose more children to those that wish to harm them. Example: Little signs that say don't stop here because a sex offender lives here, may in turn give the message that homes without a sign are safe, and that is where the 90 percent live.

"...using good parenting and educating your children regarding whom and what they should do will protect your family from all crime". - ReverendJon Are you serious??? That will protect them???? Then I guess all of the victims out there are products of poor parenting in your opinion. (Unbelievable)Homes not displaying signs do not It imply that they are safe. However, homes with the sign emphatically state that any house displaying such a sign IS NOT SAFE !!! Wake up man. I've concluded that you are so daft that any further discussion with you is a total waste of time. Answer if you must, but you won't get any further replies from me.
