So the Bible instructs believers to picket funerals? I must have missed that verse. Phelps does not reflect reality, the Church, or God and distorts scripture for his own gain.
Many churches do deal with the problem of predators. In my church, for example, all parents must take classes about dealing with sexual predators and seeing signs of sexual abuse in their children before leaving kids in bible classes. All childcare workers must have background checks and take classes, and only the parents can sign kids in/out. This, btw, seems excessive to most people but I think that it's great that the church is willing to admit that we are too incautious and take an extremely careful approach to our children's welfare.
Churches are starting to have no other choice except to "get with the program". Their numbers are dying and the virus will do anything it needs to survive.
Just what we needed: Folks who employ magical thinking in their daily lives trying to guide others in matters that religion has consistently, and tragically, screwed-up century upon century.

"Oh yes Pastor, this is my first time here. I came because of the billboards. Is this the church where I can get my sexy on?"

Here's a church that held a "Porn and Pancakes" breakfast: <a class="user" href="http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=91208">http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=91208</a>

A lot of people make the claim that the church is too closed minded...But your over generalizations only confirm your closed mindedness.
