Some of the local cafes here in Atlanta use NoCatNet http://nocat.net which I think got started in the wilds of Sonoma CA. It is supposed to be run on Redhat. Here's an article on it.http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/3111111

NoCat is pretty tight too. With our Less, we have a redirect add based market thats easily customizable for venues.Although I like to use Hyper firmware on my WRT54g's and hit 1/2 mile with a small 7db gain antenna. You know, to cross those crappy paid Starbucks. ;)

ZoneCD is pretty easy to set up. However, I want a Live CD version of Linux that will allow my laptop's internal wireless act as an access point. I tried ZoneCD, but it requires an external AP.

I still think this is an exciting application. Most of the time open source software can be tricky to get working, but this application is completely different. I think they did a great job. I discuss this more at my blog: Atlas-Tuesday - Hotspot Solutions NoCat

myWIFIzone Captive Portal services do the same thing and work with Windows 2K/XP. Zero up-front investment if you already have a WIFI network.
