ilounge.com — The campaign is meant to educate Senators on the importance of balancing copyright and the public interest. The iPods were pre-loaded with public domain and Creative Commons-licensed content, including a video presentation from Stanford Prof. Lawrence Lessig.

Dupe away, my friend. Worth reading the second time around.

I agree that it's not going to make as much of a difference. However, after the incident some months ago with a Senator and his brand new video iPod, we all knew somebody would eventually do this.

Since when do those clowns ever do anything for the greater good or because they think it's the right thing to do. A free iPod? Or RIAA lobbyists paying $5k for dinner at their house? What to do, what to do...

Ah the good ole U.S. of A. Where whoever has the most money can bribe the s**t out of the gov't to attain power.

twit.tv for more info. Leo had the iPac people on his Twit podcast today. It is an interesting talk on what iPac wants to do. This includes trying to either enlight or remove Congresspeople who tend to vote to restrict fair use.

Nice name. There is something to be said for truth-in-advertising.

I hope everyone understands the significance of what's going on here. This is the first time (that I'm aware of anyway) that there has been a PAC (Political Action Committee) focused on technology issues. Their goal isn't just to send iPods to congresspeople, it's to *remove the people who are making bad policies from office*. This is a big deal, since it gives anyone who has an interest in technology a voice that could very well overshadow all the bribes and other perks (from commercial interests) received by those in office.

Sounds like a bribe to me. Did they show them how the iPod doesn't work with any online music service for popular legal music except Apple's?

apple created the ipod, apple created the itunes music store... why should they have to open what they've develop to other companies??? if other music players were good they'd create their own music store and people would use it.. i bet you're french hehe jk
