dodd.senate.gov — Senator Dodd, a true patriot, has introduced legislation that would effectively repeal the Military Commissions Act. Please call your Senator to support this. With the cooperation of a few sane Republicans, perhaps we can even build a veto-proof majority! I know, but still, it's worth trying.

The MCA denied foreign unlawful combatants claims of Habeas Corpus which invoke the Geneva Conventions. That's it. The key phrases being "foreign" and "Geneva Conventions". This is an example of something that has been blown hugely out of proportion because it's an election year.

@harrisbradleys comment...People aren't born with rightsThe Constitution of the United States begs to differ with that statement, specifically the Bill of Rights.Granted it is in the best interest of society to restrict the use of those rights in certain circumstances...such as those convicted of crimes. But they forfeited those rights and knew they would when they committed the crime. But children under 18 ARE protected by the constitution and have the same unalienable rights as everyone else. Some of those rights are simply restricted for a time until the person is of an age to use those rights responsibly...such as the right to keep and bear arms. The Constitution doesn't GIVE us those rights. We have them automatically at birth as human beings. We are BORN with them. The Constitution simply protects those rights in writing from any power that we the people consent to give authority to govern us...that is all it does.

@fellowuserWhat "legitmate secrets?"This is how it works: CIA man rolls into Bumf**karabad and tells the locals "$20,000 for every Bad Man you turn in." and they proceed to sell their tribal enemies to the CIA man.We bought crap. We filled Gitmo with a bunch of random Arabs and Afgans who had enemies back home. Only by accident are any of these guys real terrorists. We f**ked it up just about as bad as possible.

Wow thank the good Lord (your Lord too, you neo-con hacks) that some one is is trying to put out the fire that has been consuming the bill of rights. Its nice to see that some one in congress still believes in Liberty and Justice for All.

Don't count on Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson to support this bill. She's a huge rubber stamper for Bush and wouldn't dare go against the king's wishes. The same goes for Cornyn - both are shameless hacks.

Well, we better make sure Kiefer Sutherland is around for another season, that's for sure.
