It's a step in the right direction. He did the right thing, and all Americans should support him in this initiative, whether you want to vote for him or not. Are you saying from your comments that you SUPPORT granting immunity to corporations that acted illegally and supported illegal warrant-less wiretapping of American citizens? I love how people are so willing to suspend constitutional rights because we're in wartime. Just remember, if and when wartime's over, do you really trust your government to suspend these programs because wartime is over? NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Even if this power was granted for a benevolent cause initially, don't think for a second it won't be abused and used against you after the cause for it's inception is gone. Get a clue, the constitution is here to protect us, and eroding it for temporary security is a surefire way to the downfall of this country and an every increasing police state.
I wrote one of my Texas senators and said that his stance on SCHIP was the second to last straw and if they vote on any bill that would give these companies immunity they would break the last.Funny how on his website he supports SCHIP but in the subtext you see it is a compromise he supports, not what congress sent to bush.
If you call around now (3:30 on friday) his office is still open and taking calls. I didn't really say much other than that I felt it was excellent that he was taking a stand on this issue and gave my name and the state I'm from, But I guess every little bit counts though right?
Every time I read that quote somewhere it makes me sick. If the consititution is just a goddamned piece of paper, then maybe he's just a dry drunk in a big f**king chair, so let's not take him seriously either.
