arstechnica.com — Approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee and written by Senator Arlen Specter in cooperation with the White House, the National Security Surveillance Act would legalize the NSA's surveillance program and vastly expand the scope of Presidential power. If it is passed, the bill would allow the President to act above the law.

The bill would facilitate widespread domestic surveillance on a massive scale. How is characterizing that as "big brother" hyperbole? It literally redefines the legal definition of surveillance so that the government can track what web sites you visit, who you call, how long you spend talking to them, and how often you call them, all without needing a warrant.

The 2nd ammendment of the US Constitution was added was to ensure the citizens had the means to "change" the government should it get out of control. That's why they're dying to take our guns away. It's rather tough to defend yourself and what few rights you haven't had stolen with a shovel vs. automatic weapons. I love it when someone chants "well it's a free country". OK, quit paying your property taxes, which are unconstitutional, and see what happens to your home - yeah baby now that is freedom! Now there are free speech zones. Now THAT is freedom! What's that song? Revolution Calling......

Who are these leftists that you speak of?And what happened to real conservatives? Remember the people that were for PRIVACY and against BIG GOVERNMENT.I don't believe you can call the majority of Republicans Conservative by any stretch of the definition.Democrats as liberal is just funny, what exactly are they liberal with? Guns? Taxes? health care? Reform? Security? anything?????Another case of Polarization taking precedent over actual DEFINITIONS

definately, encrypt everything. I recently turned on my smtp-ssl feature on my mail servers. So now all incoming/outgoing mail will be encrypted with whomever listens. Combine that with imap-ssl or pop-ssl, and always, always send mail using smtp-ssl from your mail client also. I also recommend everyone that can, get your own mailserver so mail will show up on your personal machine, then it cannot be logged, tracked or intercepted easily (when using ssl).

I don’t know about a fall election strategy, but to me it sounds more like a strategy to avoid prosecution after the fall elections. How this can’t be struck down as unconstitutional is what I would like to know?
