washingtonpost.com — The Senate voted today to preserve retroactive immunity from lawsuits for telecommunications companies that cooperated with a government eavesdropping program, decisively rejecting an amendment that would have stripped the provision from a bill to modernize an electronic surveillance law.

BTW, you'll notice that if you go to their action section, you can send an email to your congressperson about this issue. I'm not in collusion with Credo but I did used to work there and do respect the effort to make a difference.

chicofaraby: No he didn't. Looks like he got in a little too late. He didn't vote on the bill itself (@ 7:30am). He did vote for the amendment to strike the immunity from the bill (@ 11:03am) but that failed.

To be fair, the people who voted for cloture did not necessarily vote Yea on the measure. Also, neither Obama nor Hillary voted on the measure.<a class="user" href="http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00020">http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_li ...</a>

It's not just "includes", but ESPECIALLY those 17.

Both my Senators voted no. I can't ask for any more on that end from my elected officials. Washington State.

The only shot they had at stopping this bill was the filibuster, but if Obama really wanted to exploit this issue for political gain he would have voted against the bill in the official vote as well (rather than going back to campaign) even though there was no chance of getting enough votes to kill the bill. He took the less glamorous but more practical stand and voted on the technical measure that could have made a difference but not the symbolic one. Had he wanted to have the bill passed, but get credit for opposing it, he would have done what Dianne Feinstein did - vote for cloture, and then vote against the bill. She was the only person who did that and it is despicable - she's a Democrat from a liberal state, she should not have been supporting the FISA bill. Look at Obama's technology policies in general. They're good and surprisingly well-informed for a politician (unless you're one of those people who thinks 'net neutrality' = evil government regulation).

Yes I have. Most excellent book. Very revealing in its scope. Ms. Wolf has a very good bulls**t detector and definitely knows the score with all this 'terror-scare' B.S. fear-mongering farce. I have met her in person as well. A unique lady and VERY knowledgeable, truthful & the real deal.I have a good video interview of her linked from my profile if interested. Definitely worth watching as she explains it all quite eloquently:<a class="user" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0LvtQAQ6sc">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0LvtQAQ6sc</a>'Naomi Wolf discusses her book "The End of America" which identifies 10 classic steps common to all dictatorships--including those of Mussolini, Hitler & Stalin. Each of these 10 steps is occurring in post 9/11 America today."
