I would think that you could also use a scale, since additional heatsinks should add weight. Of course, you'd need a very sensitive scale. I don't know what the weight difference is, but I doubt that most bathroom scales would cut it, especially since they can be miscalibrated.

That depends on if they are being used to modify a noun or a verb. Upside-down can do either. You can be upside-down, and you can do things in an upside-down manner. Consider the two meanings of the sentence: "I'm f**king upside-down"
