consumerreports.org — Ever wanted to see what your car would look like if a dummy drove it into a wall? Admit it, you think about it when you get a lousy trade-in price. Thankfully, there's the Consumer Reports Crash Test videos, where you can see how your car will hold up against things like short concrete walls and other typical objects found along a highway.

Humans are always impressive. Instead of us all learning how to drive safely we just figure the best way to not die when we crash. When we're speeding, weaving through traffic, looking at the hot chicks in the car beside us, talking on our phone while the dog in the passenger seat climbs all over us, the kids are screaming and kneeing us in the back and we're running red lights and we spill our beer in our laps, we don't want to have to think about something stupid like dying and stuff. after all, it takes concentration to make sure you win the drag from the lights and don't let the tosser merge into your lane.Improved car safety is great but it's less effective than common sense. No wonder everyone drives SUVs and uses them like bumper cars.

My Nissan Titan did not fair so well. It got a "good" rating. Even with the airbags the driver would have hit his head on the steering wheel and most likely got a head injury. That was at 40mph. Lord knows I did not get a truck with massive torque and 300+ HP to go 40.

Consumer Reports doesn't do the crash testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does. As a non profit organization CR does extensive tests on cars which it reports on every month in its magazine and at CRO.org. CR always buys all of its cars at the dealership, just like you and me. They are completely independent accepting no advertisement and will not take any money or products from the manufactures. They may not be perfect, who is, but they are about as good as they come.

Hmmm...skull fractures and serious head injuries, rib fractures and injuries to internal organs...and the guy in the back seat doesn't bode well either. I think I'd rather get thrown through the windscreen - at least then I might land on some soft grass.
