addons.mozilla.org — Screengrab saves entire webpages as images.Just install it, make sure Java is configured (Java absolutely necessary), and right-click on a page. You can save the entire page as an image (it scrolls around the page taking shots and stitches it together), just the visible portion, or the browser window.

Even better is PDF reDirect from <a class="user" href="http://www.exp-systems.com/">http://www.exp-systems.com/</a>Hit Ctrl+P and it appears as one of your printers. You can also use it to combine multiple docs into one PDF - great for saving multiple web pages. It's free and works with any browser. Sadly, it's Windows only.

I corrected the problem with the slashdot page. The memory and cpu was because all of the error messages. The error messages were because the slashdot page height was incorrectly determined and the thumbnail images couldn't be created. It is now fixed.

So which browser rendering engine does this utility use?

If you've got a Mac, don't bother with this unless you need a Firefox-specific screenshot. Paparazzi is definitely more elegant and it uses Web Kit. I do use this when I'm at work on Windows, however, and while it's kind of awkward, it gets the job done.

You can quickly capture just a section of a page with the Firefox Snapper extension. And also with imagemagick, which can be installed on Linux, Windows, and Mac:<a class="user" href="http://tips.webdesign10.com/how-to-take-a-screenshot-on-ubuntu-linux">http://tips.webdesign10.com/how-to-take-a-screenshot-on-ubuntu-linux</a>
