I can't stand it when people argue that "parents always know better than anyone else how to raise their kids". Popping a kid out (or 3, or 15) doesn't suddenly grant you the knowledge required to raise a child; I'm sure you know horrible parents who are f**king up their kids.I'm not arguing for giving the government control over what you teach your kids: I'm arguing that children have inalienable rights that should be protected by law -- such as education.
I don't know why you got dugg down, you are absolutely right. Today Tonight is tabloid tele at its worst. Half there stories are about fad diets and the other half is about dodgy builders.
Who owns the child? The government or the parents? There are a whole lot of idiots out there raising children, and the children come out fine. How many stories have you heard from people that you respect about how their upbringing was horrible? I'm not saying that children should be abused, but in the end it usually makes for a better person. For example I will not drink or smoke because my dad did. His crappy habits taught me a better way. It's way too easy to focus on perceived shortcomings of parents and not notice all of the things that they get right.
My druggie, alcoholic aunt's kids didn't come out ok: one's in prision, the other's a crackhead. There were at least a dozen kids at my highschool that had s**tty parent; a good number ended up in juvie or became images of their parents.
The problem with $cientology is that they have child labors in a so-called "land of freedom" and still considers itself as a "late 20th century religion".Not saying that child labors are right, just saying how hypocrite they are.
