Scientology isn't the only religion guilty of discrimination against poor people. Check out the history of "indulgences" in the Roman Catholic church. In a roundabout way, they charged people for forgiving their sins. You could purchase indulgences and use them to liberate the souls of your deceased family members from Purgatory. Martin Luther's protest of the Catholic Church's indulgences is what set off the Reformation in the 1500s. (That's the original Martin Luther, not the Martin Luther King, Jr. of the 1960s, for those of you who aren't familiar with him.) This practice of charging people for spiritual benefits is nothing new. Scientology just happens to be the latest in a long string of religions committing the same fraud on their followers.
I don't believe a word of any of these stories, I think you would have to be a complete moron to believe half of it, it's just people grabbing for cash, trying to sell stories which are so transparently false that it's an insult to anyone who reads them.

Who really cares about the perception of this, the Truth will win the day anyway.
