nature.com— "Drug can clear away one fearful memory while leaving another intact. A single, specific memory has been wiped from the brains of rats, leaving other recollections intact."

That's the 2nd most stupid thing I've ever heard on here. How the HELL would the scientists know they removed just ONE memory."Hey, Mr. Rat, do you remember the time that I shoved that cocoa puff up your butt? No? GOOD! What about the time I gave you cancer and then cut it off? Ok, that you remember."
Now they need to reverse it and restore memories/links so I can remember what happened to me before I was 5 or so. Kinda curious how I can barely remember anything from that time in my life. Kinda scary they're getting closer to manipulating memory, sure make some conspiracy theorists go nuts.
@ bmartin... I would gladly test out boner medicine before being the "eternal sunshine" mouse. Besides, Im sure they didnt leave the poor mice with blue balls, they had to have gotten a little mice orgy going everyonce in a while to test out just how long the little mice penises could go. and now, we have officially contemplated mice boners for way too long...
@ decipherdSure there is. If I was trying to remember where I was today, and half the day is missing, I would think "hey, what the hell happened today".If it's a memory that ties into another memory then you'd be wondering why you can't remember- at the same time realizing you use to have a memory. I like to give humans a little more credit than rats."Then, they gave half the rats a drug known to cause limited amnesia (U0126, which is not approved for use in people)".You guys do know a hard smash to the head does the same thing, right? So the study proves causing or almost causing brain damage to an animal causes it to lose its memories. Who knew!

This shows that the fearful memory is actually deleted, rather than simply breaking the link between the memory and a fearful response."

Who funds this? Isn't it cheaper to just go to the local liquor store?

They asked and the mice didn't answer.

@appetite"I can't think of one ethical application of this."Elisha Cuthbert gets to straddle you while some goon wipes your memories.
