As to the area the size of Chicago, so what. Float it offshore, say 500 miles out from populated areas and then pipeline it or boat it back to the mainland.

You can't eat gold..., and it won't power your car. If the bug made gold, gold would be devalued. Oil won't be totally devalued by having too much of it, because we always need more. When the oil runs out, you'll wish the bug made oil.
