nsf.gov— "Supervolcanoes" have been blamed for multiple mass extinctions in Earth's history, but the cause of their massive eruptions is unknown.

Honestly, supervolcanoes really scare me. I mean with something like an asteroid impact, we could predict it and possibly even stop it. Supervolcanoes are here on earth they could go off at any time, it would be very hard to predict when and if they'll erupt and if they do there's absolutely nothing we can do. The only thing that's certain is global catastrophe. I think research into it them is really important.
If it makes you feel a little better, we only really have to worry about the landbased ones (Yellowstone) which violently explode when they finally go off. The sea based ones typically only spew lots of lava.
FTA"'Supervolcanoes' emitted large amounts of gases and particles into the atmosphere, and re-paved the ocean floor,"... The result?"Loss of species, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and changes in ocean circulation,"Seems woryying to me.

Which is why there is a large body of research being done at one of the larger supervolcanoes in existence, the Yellowstone Caldera.

Oh yeah? Well I'm going to conduct my own research on undersea superdupervolcanoes!

This is the kind of hard science research that needs to be funded. The sex life of fruit flies? Not so much.

Scientists are certified fools. The title of this article is so ridiculous. They come from CoS and Outer Space....
