sometimes i wonder what would happen if we denied the opponents of science the benefits of science. "got a bit by a snake? sorry, we can't give you the anti-venom because it was found by studying evolutionary biology. we know how much you hate evolution""got alzheimers? sorry, we can't give you the cure it was found using embryonic stem cells. we wouldn't want you to feel conflicted or anything."
It will never make it.The government will put a ban on stem cell research.But some fat little boy in some little town, will clone a Shakey's Pizza out of stem cells, prooving to all of us what benefit Stem Cells can lead to.
Forget about embryonic stem cells and the religious and ethical issues associated with them! Read this carefully: No embryos need to be harvested to benefit from stem cells! Adult stem cells (not embryonic, ADULT!) can be found in umbilical chords, bone marrow, children's milk teeth, blood, etc etc etc. New sources of adult stem cells are being found every single day! Autologous stem cells are a type of adult stem cell which is found in a person's own body and then used to treat their own diseases. Facts:There are no religious/ethical issues with using adult stem cells.Adult stem cells have been PROVEN to treat and improve the lives of patients with over 100 diseases.There is no risk of rejection with adult stem cells and so there is no need for immuno-suppressive drugs.There are no or virtually no side affects when using adult stem cells.Get off the media circus fighting over embryonic stem cells (which don't work now and won't produce any viable drugs for at least another 10 years) and look into adult stem cells.
So many responses, so little education. People aren't opposed to stem cell research (at least not the people you're thinking of). Many people are opposed to Embryonic Stem Cell research. The fact is that most stem cell research is done on Adult Stem Cells. The clear advantage is that we can get pluripotent cells from ASC's, they are less-likely to be rejected by the host (if they taken from the host), they have a proven track record of success in studies and application.It is this, along with many other factors that lead Dr. Oz to declare to Michael J. Fox and Oprah that the debate is over - Adult Stem Cells are sufficient.

They can get stem cells from skin cells now. So no embryos have to be used.
