The article doesn't go into it, but Costco operates under a pretense that it is the 'bottom line' retailer and has the lowest prices compared to any other warehouse or retailer. This is what makes it different from other retailers - not that they pretend to have low prices, but that their customers have completely and fully given over their minds to that concept and have bought into it psychologically and emotionally.Talk to any Costco customer and you'll hear them say how they can't get prices like that anywhere else. Costco doesn't need signs - they have word of mouth. That's why it's so successful.
how is an article as poor and stupid as this reaching the front page of digg. consumers are stupid and the key to most businesses is to try and get your consumers to buy without thinking. do we really need a paragraph from an article to enlighten us to this fact?
If you insist on having USDA organic food, you can't beat Costco for the money. It's true that I get lazy about checking the prices when I'm going down my shopping list, but if I were buying the same quantities at Whole Foods or whatever, I'd be broke. You should shop at Costco the same way you should shop anywhere else - make a list, and stick to it.

This all may be true, but for a family Costco can't be beat.

This is a good tactic at any store. Walk or bike to the store so you know you won't be able to carry home more than what you can carry in the store.
