It is a tiny bit overrated by popular culture, but it is still a great film. From an filmmaking point of view, it is a great story and well put together film. The original Scarface by Howard Hawkes is better IMO.
Excuse me? Scarface is *not* a story of "how power corrupts" as the article says it. How you could sit through this whole movie and come away with nothing but "greed and corruption" and still have a pulse is beyond me. The character of Tony was corrupt before he reached the States, having already been an assassin in Cuba; the whole irony of the storyline is how Tony doesn't change one iota from the time he's a skid row dishwasher to his time as the Miami cocaine world's kingpin. He just consumes and consumes and consumes and is never happier than when he had nothing. He only achieves his temporary success because he is too naive to know different.Note that his predecessor is a jolly fellow who laughs at every other line and has a ball while he still can. Note that when Tony steps into the same position, he never cracks a smile through the whole story. Thus it is inevitable that everything implodes around him, he is a black hole into which everything is sucked and nothing changes him. Also note the scene where he gets busted; just before that, he was ready to recount the table full of money based on a discrepancy of $1500. You can take the thug off the street, but you can't take the street out of the thug.

I'm not a huge fan of the film, personally. But, at any rate, a really interesting read.

"The game it inspired" is "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City."

I completelely agree. Don't get me wrong, its a great flim, but to have people rave about it and call it the greatest film ever it a far stretch.
