thedailygreen.com — Consumer Reports found that cars with manual transmissions get two to four miles per gallon more than the same models with automatic transmissions. If you drive, say, 15,000 miles per year, that's going to save you about $350 annually at today's gas prices.

That's not what the Al Qaida Party candidate Barak Hussein Obama said! He said we could save 'a fortune' if we kept our tires properly inflated. Wow, what a revelation.

Right. I'm not saying it's not a nice car, it awesome (I own a G37 coupe with 211 miles :) ) But it's not a "I'm going to mod the hell out of this thing and drift it, yo!!" car. The Evo is, and is around the same price. Make no mistakes, I would lose BAAAAAAAD to an Evo in any kind of race (I own one of those too, modded to hell)

Bad quality parts doesn't mean anything other than bad quality parts. I've got a Mitsubishi with 90k miles on it and never had to do anything other than routine maintenance.

Modern torque converters can lock up as low as 30mph, depending on the vehicle. You can also have them lock up in the top two gears, if you're towing or disabled OverDrive on most new trucks and minivans. Computer control mitigates the "undue stress" by managing more complicated shifts, which is also how you get neat toys like paddle shift on some cars. Launch control on the new Nissan GT, anyone? As for "the rest of the time", that's called acceleration, which is going to burn more fuel and be less efficient, regardless of whether your automatic is rowing through the gears to get up to speed or you are doing it with a manual transmission.Manuals are cheaper than autos, and that's the only reason we still see them in some cars. Heavy trucks are starting to get automatics that can deal with the rigors of hauling heavy loads and the abuse of driving off-road. It's only a matter of time before manual transmissions become the option on all vehicles, and manuals are the more expensive alternative through lower demand.
