I bought this game when it came out after playing the beta. I think I still have the box.I was young and impressionable and the guy who does Ctrl+Alt+Del was in love with it.
dude, this isn't hard to install in linux, it is really easy.im not exactly sure how to do it in your distro, but i am using ubuntu bash (path to file) is what i type, and it installs within a minute, automatically.
I don't mind that I paid $20 for it back in 2004, when I went to the nvidia binary drivers to get 3D acceleration so the game would run.To hear it's now free is great. Now, if only EA would get a clue and let go of the source to Starflight...
I've been playing savage for a while now, and though it's great fun for a blast, I think that the game is deeply flawed. Most games are Human Vs Beast, on roughly symmetrical maps, so the Beast team has the early advantage, as they are faster and stronger. This means that Beasts can take over most of the map quickly, and defend it better, giving Humans little chance of gaining the resources that they need to develop the technology required to win the game. The Beast team, because they control most of the available resources, can then advance their own technology rapidly, giving access to stronger units and better weapons, even further aggravating the imbalance in the 2 sides. This results in a "Beast rush" early in the game, which usually overwhelms the Human team quickly. So many games follow this pattern that it can be extremely frustrating for Human players, not to mention boring.Human Technology IS better, if they manage to hang on long enough to get it, and a good Human team can then start to wear down the Beast team, but even then, Beasts have a final trump card in the "Gate", which can be created almost anywhere on the map, (usually behind Human defenses) through which they can then pour, often unopposed. This often means that a Beast team which has been totally outplayed can still win the game. Surely this can not be right, as any decent game should reward the best team. For myself, I can't play as a Beast, because I find "Rush" tactics unrewarding and extremely boring. I prefer to play as Human, but as I mentioned, this can be very frustrating.Overall, I'm disappointed, as the game's developers seem to have taken the Beast's side, resulting in a horribly imbalanced game.No doubt, they would justify this by saying "Humans have X, so Beasts must have Y" but they seem to have taken this way too far, so that Beasts have access to items for which there is no Human equivalent, and which confer a massive advantage.I look forward to "Savage2, A tormented soul". but I won't be buying it unless it offers a much more rewarding experience.

This is an awesome game definitely worth checking out. It can be best described as Warcraft 3 with an army of 31 other people.

Even more exciting is the fact that Savage 2 is almost out. If you preorder you get in on the beta!
