savage2.s2games.com — Indie developer S2games made waves when they released their unique multiplayer title Savage 2, a unique mix of RPG, FPS, RTS and melee combat. Now Linux users can join in with the release of the Linux client, in 32 or 64 bit. Both Linux and Windows users can also enjoy a whole sack of bonus content released today in the 1.4 patch. Try it out!

I played the client this morning. I have yet to find a bug. All devices are properly supported, graphics are as good as in windows (if not better), and it works with no hastle at all. Only thing I had to do was chmod +x it, and tell it where to install; then play. All graphical settings are available to me (except AA, but I suspect that may be nVidia)

I just want to make sure all the linux users know about this game so I can kill them repeatedly and without mercy. Is that so wrong? Let us love you, Tux.

People have said it before, and I will say it again. Savage 2 is a great game, that is unlike anything else on the market. It transcends genres and provides an intensely competitive scene. It has full stat tracking, replays of every game ever played, fully integrated clan support, and you can play a demo free for 5 hours. Also, it is published by a great group of indie developers who are continually improving the game and sorting out any issues that pop up. This is not something that happens for linux very often, so will all of you please stop complaining about the fact that there was an organized community effort to give this game the attention it deserves. If there had been no effort this would have disappeared into the digg graveyard not because it isn't newsworthy, but because people just wouldn't notice it.

I think this is now the best native linux game there is.

Game has an active community, and developers that frequent the forums. They're willing to make changes based on player feedback. Linux version has a few bugs related to openGL but nothing major.
