The only problem when them becoming even poorer is that education would suffer. The only way to really improve a country is with a good education system.
Legalized rape through "arranged" marriages and legalized murder through "honor killings" are very common there. It's like they haven't realized that they are not still living in the dark ages. Someone needs to turn on the lights and free the girls and women of this abuse. I am afraid the change will have to come from within the society itself, which means it may never end.
