it would have made a lot more sense if they just put a tax on it.When the Irish government proposed the plastic bag tax it was greeted by mixed opinion. A lot of people thought it was just a way for the government to get more money, some people saw the positive side of it.Whatever your opinion it worked fantastically here in Ireland, we had massive problems with littering of plastic bags. it would not be an exaggeration to see you would see them everywhere. Now the problem is non existentThe tax meant that prety much all shops that were dependent on plastic moved to paper bags, and the larger stores brought in echo friendly reusable bagsEither way ban or tax it really does make a massive differnece

San Fran is a bunch of idealistic/unrealistic fools. Has anyone actually visited the city. It is dirty as any city I have ever been to, and has an insane homeless population. We should look to San Fran as what not to do.

Plastics are made from byproducts of petroleum refining. So I guess rather than use the byproducts to make plastic we should just burn them and contribute to global warming and pollution or dump them and make more ground and water pollution. We need to utilize the byproducts of petroleum (gas and oil) refining until we find ways to drive our cars from solar power.Ever lived near a paper manufacturing plant. They wreak of mercaptan, some of the world's smelliest chemicals and pollute rivers and streams with acidic byproducts. Plastic is the most easily recyclable product. It takes much less heat to recycle than metals and glass. Decisions such as this are based on stupidity not real knowledge.

Oil-based plastic bags impose significant externalities.

Frisco is a dirty cess pool of a city. I wonder what all the homeless people, that Frisco pays to stay homeless, will carry all their s**t in now.

The disposal of plastics products also contributes significantly to their environmental impact. http://bit.ly/fkgNOb
