engadget.com — Oh Samsung, you and your obsession with the "world's biggest" puts even Jersey girls to shame. Chalk-up two more this morning with the world's highest capacity 1.8- and 2.5-inch hard disk drives. The newly announced 1.8-inch SpinPoint N2 however, brings a world's first 120GB capacity to portable handheld devices like UMPCs and perhaps iPods...

I'm a Pennsylvanian but I go to college with about 1/3rd of the people here being Jersey girls, so I can appreciate this. They're annoying as all hell.

@PARAPAYour 60 GB iPod will not magically stop working if a better one comes out. If that were true, than it already would have with the release of the 80 GB iPod several months ago. I never understand this obsession people have to owning the latest and greatest. When you buy a computer, you expect it to be outdated within weeks. It doesn't mean that it won't still do what you need it to do, just that something better is out there.

Creative's line of MP3 players are nice but they're meant to be portable, 4.3" screen?

microdrives don't provide much of a speed advantage over flash drives when it comes to mp3 or video playback. plus, if ipods had an sd slot like my psp, you wouldn't need to buy a whole new ipod to increase storage. it'd also be more convenient to be able to swap out sd cards rather than have to erase data on your ipod to make room for other media content.

@ smackheroThat may be true, my experience was file transfer, and using them for mini servers. One thing I did notice was that micro hard drives are usually much cheaper than their flash based counterparts. Usually around $12 per GB for flash and only $1 per GB for a micro hard disk.

same as a psp. but how much does it cost? personally, i think a 4" screen is the minimum for a device meant for video playback.

I don't get it. How much space do you really need for an iPod. Next thing you here, apple's going to sell 1TB drives...
