mostofmymac.com — In the weeks since its release, I?m sure that many of you have already downloaded the new beta version of Safari. Today I?m going to take you through a side by side comparison of the two in giving you a better understanding of them and letting you make the choice of which one you would like to use.

You wouldn't need to find your cache folder if you had the Greasemonkey FF extension installed and the "Download Video" add-on for Greasemonkey from userscripts.org.

"I say no to Suckfarti and anyone who disagrees is just another Apple fanboy."Whereas you, sir, are obviously an intellectual... How exactly does it suck? Instead of dogpiling with generalities like it "sucks", be specific. ("It's not pretty"? Oh come on...) The biggest impression it made on me was that it's unquestionably the fastest browser on my Windows machine. I'm not saying I'm switching to it, but after messing around with it for about 20 minutes today, it's got my interest.

I use FF at work daily (in Windows XP SP2) because I like Firebug (it integrates well with Aptana/RadRails also) but believe me I have *screamed* at it no end of times since about 2.0.0.3 becuase I can't copy examples etc. from the API docs for Ruby/Rails half the time becuase the copy/paste has broken *again*. I can't even copy a link URL to the clipboard most of the time. It's so annoying it hurts.I never have this kind of blindingly obvious bug with Safari on the Mac. I'll admit Safari is far from perfect and it's reduced me to a screaming wreck on odd occasions in the past too, but at least the elemental stuff that's been part of computing since the dawn of time works.I've used the Windows version for odd little bits (mostly making sure my pages render ok) and it seems to be fast and clean. The rendering is a little kooky at times (hasn't it always been!), but it's usually my sloppy coding as much as anything. Apart from that it seems ok for a BETA.

Major correction: text find in VIM is the greatest in the history of all software (if you know how to use it....and if you don't, you should learn, because it's incredibly powerful), Firefox comes in second, and Safari ranks somewhere down there on the sh**list with IE.

Interface for Safari on windows looks like crap. The main area where safari shines is in the speed at which it renders pages. And yes, to a degree I think tabs in safari are better. Heck tabs in Opera and even IE7 are better than Firefox. But in regards to properly rendering a majority of pages correctly without breaking under various css or javascript, Firefox still blows Safari away. And we all know Firefox add ons, especially for development blows everything away.

I am sure this has been mentioned in all the posts, but in case it wasn't I'll say it anyway.Tabbed browsing is far deficient in Safari compared to IE7 and FF2. Sure, Safari has pluses, but it's the simple little things that Safari lacks that really irks me. Example: Safari's inability to open "new Window" commands from sites like Google in a new tab. That one small little thing is so annoying, and is so intrusive when trying to perform "true" tabbed browsing on the interwebs.
