torrentfreak.com — The South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival is one of the largest and most popular in the United States. For the fifth year in a row, SXSW has released a DRM-free, RIAA-safe collection of songs totaling 6 GB, which can all be downloaded for free, thanks to BitTorrent.

This does NOT mean that you can steal other music.Support this and support the bands you like by buying their music.

unless it's a zipped file, you should be able to select the files to download individually in your torrent client

I live in Austin. It's gotten worse every year. The SXSgods will deign to send me a text message, at which point I drop everything, run out of work get in line and blow $130 on a wristband to see two bands I like that won't come back here for another 2 years at least. Oh, and they're each playing a little over 45 minutes. Hooray.

No, actually, there are probably plenty of RIAA artists on the torrent. Whoever owns the rights to a recording (publishing, songwriter, and master, often different people), whether part of the RIAA or not, have the right to sign off on making the track available for free/download. I haven't looked at the track list, but I'd bet you at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the songs on it are probably from RIAA affiliated labels.
