lists.opensuse.org — I'm happy to announce the availability of SUSE Linux 10.1 "remastered". This release combines the 10.1 GM and all online updates that we have released for 10.1 so far, including libzypp, which should make the installing and working experience much smoother for everyone.

Kindof reminds me of the days of Netware where they release crap that doesn't work, then a quickie "fix pack" that pretends to fix everything. The assimilation into Novell is finally complete.

my question is, can I install it from the DVD? The original 10.1 DVD ISO didn't properly install because the UDF drivers weren't loaded for the install process... You had to use the 6 CD method...

Don't cry for SLED, download it and s**t to N0v3ll's face. Fedora Core6 already good as suse if you choose that because of rpm package manager, easy to use or program developement.

It's not bad, but it needs polish. I haven't seen any distribution I would call "the best" in a few years, though there are some good ones.

I'm really glad they did this--opensuse 10.1 was embarrassment and they undoubtedly lost share because of the setup goofs. I still can't believe they released it like that. The problems came from trying to force their rug/zmd installation stuff into the legacy architecture. It just wasn't ready but I guess management made the call to go ahead and squeeze out a release anywy. What a big mistake that was.If it doesn't fit, just hit it harder, right SUSE?

Use apt4rpm. It wraps the rpm system with the apt utility, which means you get all the automagic dependency resolution and stuff, as well as keeping the more subtle advantages of rpm.The most obvious of which is that you can still use yast and smart and stuff if you feel like it.
