vgchartz.com — In a conference call to discuss today's financial results, EA said that Will Wright's highly anticipated evolution sim, Spore, is no longer in the company's plans for the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2008. Most in the industry had expected the game to be released later this year, perhaps in time for the holiday shopping season.

What really gets me down is I first heard of this game a year ago, when I watched the THEN year old demo that Will Wright gave. I was stoked! They were saying a Fall 2006 release then. Then more videos showed up. Then the official site, and more videos. And Will Wright did an interview with Wired and it made the front page. I think he was in Time or Newsweek as well.NOW they're gonna push it back for another year!?So...basically, any casual gamer who happened to read the articles or see the videos will probably just forget all about Spore, and there goes a whole bunch of customers. They'll have to REALLY put the hype machine into overdrive when the game finally ships.GOD DAMMIT EA! I was so looking forward to this! Hell, I had to fallback to Simcity 4 for my sim-sandbox fix. So...that means...if Spore is delayed even further...any possibility of a SimCity 5 will be even further off in the future! It's been 5 years since SC4 and only 1 expansion pack.GAHH!

Oh Oh, this game has already been hyped up to the ass. More delay will just increase expectations for a dud. Let's hope Will can deliver.

I bet they're developing a first-person-shooter mode, a critical stage in the evolution of any species...

Clearly this is a conspiracy by those who are anti-evolution!!!! Think about it. The election will roll around in full effect by that time frame. The less this game is known of, the more likely a Republican will be voted in.Just you wait and see. Muwahahahaha!

Yeah, but if kids start intelligently designing creatures in real life, you know Jack Thompson will be all over this game.

Barbara Streisand?

Sure, last E3, Robin Williams was playing it. Long before that Will was playing it and showing off the game. I said "Playable Demo", not "Free to be played by the Public Demo".

Let the players that can program develop the game so it can be a "User-created World" like he said.
