Oh! He neglected to tell you the other 47% have never lived under socialism and we are by passing that and heading straight for communism ( bring down george soros, barny "the bank" franks, ted "i'm rich so lets become communist" turner, dodd "the aig nipple sucker", nancy "charlie manson eyes" pelosi, dingy harry reid, and of course our buffoon of a president (that bows to monarchs and fellow muslims, gives middle school gifts to dignitaries, and uh..uh...uh....uh...uh) oboma that taught law, but thinks he is above it and the oath he took to protect the constitution. oh yeah he is an attorney its a given they lie.
Considering that about 75 per cent of the population are idiots I'm surprised that the percenage favoring capitalism is as high as reported. When you consider the pizz poor job our public educational system does and the lack of emphasis on subject such as history, and economics, is it any surpirse that we're raising a generation of socialists. Thank heavens that I'm close enough to retirement age that I'll most likely be dead before this Country meets its final demise.
A lot of world governments already mix capitalism with socialism -- like Canada or Sweden for example. Are you going to tell me that these nations are part of the Red Menance? Most of us in the Cold-X or Cold-Y [late 20 to 30-somethings born on the cusp of the Berlin Wall] demographic have no major problem accepting this type of government which most of the industrialized world already uses. What's wrong with free education or health care? It's sad when people in one of the poorest nations on earth like Cuba have a longer life expectancy than people in the states like Mississippi or Louisiana because they have better access to better health care. Is Cuba richer than the US? No. It's all about priorities and ours are always on selfish profit from oil, & war. The Cubans put more value overall on human life than Americans do. They might be poorer, but they have always found ways to keep their people fed and healthy. We couldn't even provide the same two basic human rights to our poorest citizens post Katrina. Pure-blooded Communism has proven to fail. Pure-blooded Capitalism is proving to fail. Why does it always have to be black or white, when there is so much better options in the gray area inbetween?
But doesn't greed come naturally with capitalism? In what way could we change a capitalist society to stop such greed, without resorting to socialist alternatives?
How can you all keep missing the point? Government subsidy and favoritism (i.e. political corruption) in America eliminates the "Free Market" concept in Capitalism. That is the ENTIRE POINT of the statistics and the article. If you'd like to try reading it again...all the way to the bottom this time."It is interesting to compare the new results to an earlier survey in which 70% of Americans prefer a free-market economy. The fact that a “free-market economy” attracts substantially more support than “capitalism” may suggest some skepticism about whether capitalism in the United States today relies on free markets.""Other survey data supports that notion. Rather than seeing large corporations as committed to free markets, two-out-of-three Americans believe that big government and big business often work together in ways that hurt consumers and investors."It's not that people are against "Free Market" Capitalism. They're just tired of what we have. If this were truly a Free Market, then there would be no end to the wailing and gnashing of teeth from self-proclaimed Capitalists that do business in America today and rely entirely on you to remain ignorant of the difference and instead to rely on your "gut" to tell you they are right and everyone else is wrong.

I'm guessing after the General Motors bankruptcy because there's millions of workers involved (if you include auto parts suppliers)
