darkmagess.livejournal.com— This innocent eBayer got totally ripped off by a russian bidder, and PayPal didn't even bother to help. It'll definitely make me think twice about selling things on eBay.

I feel sorry for the seller but he is totally correct that he should not have written a low value on the customs form - if nothing else, how was he going to insure the package? Or did he even do that? No way I'd send anything expensive overseas without insurance. Also, even if you are getting a PayPal payment for something expensive - wait a day or two for it to clear, even if it ooks like it has cleared. Or for something that expensive suck it up and use an escrow service.
I've had the Paypal system work to my advantage before. I ordered an automated R2-D2, one of the AI voice-activated Hasbro ones, from an guy in America on eBay. The thing got lost for ages and I had no proof that he'd sent it, he didn't reply to any emails and so I reclaimed my $200 from Paypal, (after two or three months from the initial sale date). THAT lit a damn fire under him at any rate and he soon became very talkative. I gave him ample warning and sent several emails giving him the chance to co-operate or even talk to me but it wasn't until Paypal lifted his funds that he even replied to my emails. Incidentally he replied with about 45 copies of the same email detailing how I was a despicable fraudster, how he would never sell internationally again and made some very personal comments spammed directly to my main email account, featuring horrible grammar and capital letters, which was very mature of him. *rolleyes*Anyway, I ordered the thing in November, it eventually turned up in April and he HAD sent it to me around when he said he did. As soon as I received it I sent him his money again, along with photographic evidence of the date I received the package with a short note telling him to never contact me again. I can scarcely believe how badly he handled the whole thing.I know this isn't really the same thing but I can understand, having used it first hand why that Paypal system for money reclaiming is in place. I'll admit it isn't an ideal system and it heavily favours the buyer over the seller, but it works if both parties are honest. Of course, a lot of people aren't. And those people are called bastards.
How could you be so f**king stupid?I hate Paypal as much as the next guy, but in this case it's NOT their fault. Why would he go against everything they recommend? Furthermore he then tries to defraud the Russian government by claiming a value of $150.I have to wonder if the seller has any brains at all. An expensive lesson, but a lesson none the less.To the people claiming he should go to Russia to get it back. LOL that's a brilliant idea. After all he is already down $2300, why not add to with a trip to Russia looking for a needle in a haystack. You people watch too many movies.
PWNED!!! Its what i call a paypal account killer. I would have just left the paypal balance negative and been happy that I got my money. I bet paypal would find the money then. of course, you will have to live your life without paypal, but I am betting that its not that bad of an idea the way they practice business anyway.
I've sold around 10 items on e-bay, luckily I have not had the problem of people sending Paypal payments and then not being able to recieve my money afterwards. The problem I have had though was a seller winning an auction and then not sending the money over, that was a hassle for me. I really wish e-bay's system was more organized and I'm hoping another company constructs an eay to use site like it with an easier service to transfter money, besides Paypal.
This same s**t has happened to me. I couldn't understand how paypal can screw one of their customers. I mean c'mon I am the one paying the paypal fee not the buyer.
