Lesson #1 in American politics, if you have enough money you can tell the government what to do. Hell you might even be able to tell your government to tell other governments what to do. All that talk about Corporate entities overtaking the nation-state for the commanding heights may not have been so far fetched after all. And before any of you whelps begin to cry about the evil Republicans pulling this crap, this practice has nothing to do with party affiliation. The **AAs have their puppet hand up a few Democrat's cracks as well. Hollywood donations to the DNC has a hell of lot more to do with protecting the MPAA business model than it has to do with ideology.
