thinkprogress.org — In a radio interview last week, Secretary Defense Donald Rumsfeld introduced a new rationale for the invasion of Iraq: high gas prices. Rumsfeld said, "If Saddam Hussein were still in power in Iraq, he would be rolling in petrol dollars. Think of the price of oil today. He would have so much money."

Unfortunately, a LOT of Americans DID vote for this guy, TWICE. Now that he is finally showing his true potential everyone is trying to distance themselves from him. They thought they were buying a winner, turns out they bought a lemon.

by your logic the majority of Germans in the WWII era are to be associated with Nazis. Brilliant.

Also, there are many fundamentalist Christians in our country and government who believe there has to be a massive war in the Middle East before their god, Jesus, can return. There are many fundamentalist Muslims who believe there has to be a massive war in the Middle East before the Mahdi (or 12th Imam, a messianic figure) can return. The president of Iran believes in this and has stated it directly. Does Bush believe in the literal return of Jesus and the biblical prophecies of massive war? I can't say if he actually believes it or just pretends to get votes, but it's possible. So he actually may see a massive war in the region as a good thing, because it means soon his god will appear.Of course all these beliefs are total BS. So we have two sides with the same kind of prophecy, the kind that tends to be "helped along" by those who believe in it. They are so eager to meet their gods and saviors that they're willing to screw up the whole world and cause untold suffering.

Here's the thing about impeaching Shrub: We'd be stuck with Dick as President or, in the immediate future, House Speaker Hastert. If the Demos take over the House after midterms, then Hastert would be out. However, if the Demos win the House and therefore a Demo becomes Speaker but, because they are like that, the Repubs decide to pull a few shenanigans thereby preventing either the Speaker or the President pro tempore from assuming the presidential office. But then, because it is probably unlikely that the US Senate will be ruled by a Democratic majority, if Shrub was impeached and Dick was kicked to the curb, we’d still get the current President pro tempore and Bus**te party liner, Ted Stevens. Even so, let's say Shrub is impeached, Dick resigns in scandal and, again, though the Demos claim both the house and the senate, they are denied the traditional line of succession because of whatever. Then we’d get the warmongering Condi, which is just as bad as having Idiot Shrub or Itchy Fingers Dick or Stevens. So we're pretty much stuck with the lousy, dumb-as-a-sack-of-hair lot of them for awhile. As for the other — I agree with masamunecyrus somewhat. Having been one of the 12% of registered California voters who voted for Governor Gray Davis in the general election of 2002, only to have my vote along with the duly elected governor tossed out a year later because those who didn't vote when they should have wanted a sexist action hero with no experience for governor IMMEDIATELY, and after the 2000 election where, clearly, votes were stolen by Shrub, voting is also under attack. We're in a mess which may never get straightened out. God bless America, indeed.
