kotaku.com — This month's Game Informer says that a black Xbox 360 with larger 120GB hard drive, HDMI output and an HDMI cable will retail for approximately US $479. It does not include HD-DVD playback. A well-placed source at Microsoft tells GI that the reason is because the "format's not proven." Then again, neither is this rumor.

@flynnz: The 360's VGA adapter only goes up to 720p.

@flynnz: "I really have to ask.....why do you want HDMI?"There are several legitimate reasons:1. HD Audio - Receivers supporting Dolby True HD and DTS HD are expected to drop later this year, and presumably the 360 with HDMI will support those formats. Currently, people using the 360 to play HD DVDs are stuck playing the STANDARD dvd track. Worse, the 360 does a worse job playing standard dvds than standard dvd players (check AVS forums for more on this. Microsoft has promised a fix).2. Upconversion - The 360 does not upconvert standard dvds over component. The difference between an upconverted DVD and a non upconverted one are easily seen in an A to B. It DOES upconvert over VGA, but as many have mentioned, VGA support is not as common as it could be and is glitchy even when it appears. 3. Portability - A good friend wants to take his 360 back and forth between two homes. He must either 1) buy 2 (40$) cables for each place or 2) go behind the entertainment center and unscrew the whole rig every time. With HDMI he can buy an extra nonproprietary HDMI Cable for $5 from monoprice, and never have to go behind the TV again.@ Flynnz: "I guess thats a good point...but doesnt really matter for gaming. I guess I mean from a gaming standpoint who cares? (seeing how the only game that is native 1080p is virtutennis and all)"Actually, Xbox Live arcade supports 1080p, including games like Geometry Wars.@Sleepwalker: "The 360's VGA adapter only goes up to 720p."Incorrect. The 360 VGA Adapter goes up to 1080p.

Yes, but you must spend money on the 60 gb or 20 gb in addition to another drive. microsoft gives the choice of not having an HDD at all.

@flynnzIf you could see the rats nest of wires behind my home theater you'd understand. I plan to buy a home theater receiver that will do HDMI switching and convert all non HDMI signals to HDMI. That way I can have as few cables as possible and simplify the whole thing with only one cable running to my TV. This would also simplify switching between multiple sources to a single push of a button on the AV unit's remote, right now to switch from my directv box to the 360 first I change the AV unit source from SAT to DVD, then I change the TV source from HDMI to VGA and finally I change the optical audio switch from position 1 to position 2. You can see how pressing one button would simplify everything and all my friends would have no problem putting in a DVD as I use my Xbox360 as my only DVD/HD DVD player.

After having a nintendo wii for a while, it still lacks "serious" games like gears of war. I would rather have a xbox 360 with an hd dvd add on, will make good use of that HDMI port ooooh yeah

ok take a good comparisonXbox 360 black - 120GB hard drive, better and cheaper games, vibration controlers, 479ps3 premium - 60GB hard drive, better quality games, blu-ray, internal wireless, 600wii - motion control games, MOSTLY CHILD GAMES, very small----------------------------------so for serious adult gamers, the wii is instanly out. there is no real games. as of the contrivousy between blu-ray and hd dvd, i can tell you now who will win, blu-ray, ill tell you why, 1: there is already blu-ray burners for people to buy, there is none for HD dvd, 2: take for example "beta max"(hope i spelled right) and "VHS", beta did not support porno, as while VHS did, that was their downfall. Blu-ray has just recently come out with their first porno, while HD dvd has said that they will not allow porno. so buying the HD dvd player is quite pointless anyway so were not going to count that. Xbox 360 with 120 GB hard drive will pretty much never run out, as the 60GB of the ps3 has only half that. Xbox has vibration controllers, i mean come'on how they gunna get rid of vibration controllers? yes the internal wireless is good, but not everybody needs it. even so, while downloading or playing online wireless can be very slow, who want to lag while playing online? for the people who need it, they can buy it, and its still cheaper than ps3. so, if you think that internal wireless and blu ray player are worth 120$ -60GB no vibration, and expensive games then buy ps3. if not go with the new xbox, i plan on reserveing it real soon.

"take for example "beta max"(hope i spelled right) and "VHS", beta did not support porno, as while VHS did, that was their downfall."-- Are you serious? That wasn't the reason it didn't take. Beta-max had better quality, more room for data, AND it was backed by Sony. The reason it sucked was because it cost a lot more and it was a bitch to set up, you had to pull the tape out and put it on the headers. VHS one because it was cheap and easy.... Now, how does this scenario sound familiar? HD DVD is cheaper, and it's easier to use with your already huge library of DVD's you already own. Also, it's not backed by the "genius" marketing guys employed by Sony. I see a repeat of history here for Sony's blu-ray
