He doesn't understand Austrian economics, and has shown some level of support for government bailouts (likely as a result of not understanding economics). He is good on civil liberties, contrary to his past voting record -- he apparently had a change of heart. Many libertarians say the change is just a political play, but for what it's worth, I think it is genuine. However, I think for him it is for utilitarian reasons rather than on principle like Paul.

Why the hell didn't he get nominated? Is there anyone still running that supports these ideas? Bob Barr maybe? I'm not too familiar with his views.

Bob Barr is probably the closest, though a lot of RP supporters question his voting record.
