The point to be made however is that an Iraqi civil war will very likely draw the entire region into a war. Saudi, for example, will not be so happy having Iran next door and in an elevated position economically and militarily. And don't forget about Israel. So regardless if you think Iran has the right to nuclear weapons, look at it more like; nuclear weapons, an influx of arms in the region (the surge already depends on heavily arming factions within iraq), and the entire region pursuing weapon technologies, including wmds. That's a f**king bleak situation to say the least.And as far as the elections go, an elected government will be nothing if not supported by a militia.. and right now factions like Muqtada al-Sadr's Al-Mahdi have their own agenda and pursuit of power. Sadly when all is said and done, we will have removed Saddam Hussein who was old and on his way out, but there's the real possibility of someone young, ambitious, and just as "evil" as Saddam taking power :(I'm not really arguing that we should continue to stay... but this idea that iraq will "solve its own problems" is idealistic and unlikely.
