latimesblogs.latimes.com — The forces of Rep. Ron Paul have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against Sen. John McCain when Republicans gather for their national convention in St. Paul at the beginning of September.

I'm not sure what Ron Paul and his supporters hope to accomplish (I guess I'll find out), but I'm glad he's doing this. Only good things can come of this: (1) Maybe more people will hear his message, which I think makes MUCH more sense from a conservative point of view that the Republican mainstream, and (2) any Republican revolt should make it easier for Obama in November.I guess that sounds kinda cheap, but I'm not just trying to slam Republicans. Obviously there is a lot of fractioning going on in both parties--just look at the past few months between Obama and Clinton. McCain represents the old guard, which unfortunately Republicans still seem happy with. If people like Obama and Paul can define the new political landscape, we might actually see a functioning government, one based on partisan compromise, on REAL attention to the issues, and not on pork-barreling and political pandering.

DId he, or did he not come onto CNN and say that of the candidates, that Obama most closely followed his views? I saw it personally. I prefer Ron Paul btw, I just happened to see the video on the news.

Ron Paul ought to drop out like Hilary did. splitting the ticket (vote) at this late date is not good. Maybe you are all too young to remember when Ross Perot split the ticket. He got 20% of Repub vote and we got a Dem president. The primary system is for the birds, but it's what we have and Paul needs to get on the team and lobby the McCain team to stay with the repub platform.

I didn't mean that we should "quietly forget." I meant the fact that it made the front page made the plot no longer "quiet."

"Paul, who's running unopposed in his home Texas district for an 11th House term, still has some $5 million in war funds and has instructed his followers that their struggle is not about a single election, but a long-term revolution for control of the Republican Party."EXACTLY. Ron Paul may not currently represent a viable Presidential candidate, but he is absolutely on-target with this objective (IMHO). The only hope for the libertarian philosophy and Jeffersonian-style self-government, is to change one of the major parties from within.Since the Dems have gone totally socialist, the GOP is the best choice. Remember, Paul used to be a card-carrying member of the Libertarian Party (as was I), but realized his best chance to effect change was to do so from within the ranks of the GOP. I've written many letters to supposedly "conservative/libertarian" Congress-critters, with nary anything resembling an intelligent response (one exception was ex-congressman, Dick Army). I'm 100% supportive of Paul's plans and have great hopes for his success.Go Ron!
