thenewamerican.com — Many Americans today are understandably concerned about the state of the economy. Unfortunately, politicians still fail to understand the origins of economic instability and the proper solution. Rather than getting government off people?s backs, their reflexive reaction is to get government more involved, creating new programs and bureaucracies.

Last night on the Fox Network the three "newsmen," (if you can call them that!), interviewed Chuck Norris. Norris has hooked up with Newt Gingrich with the "Drill Here" campaign, and so was the star of the day on these clown's show. The question posed to Norton is how do we solve the high gas prices. Norton in typical political gave his little speech that it hurts him " to see people having to pay these high gas pump prices. The blond headed smart alec mentioned Congress and asked Norris for his opinion on Congress. What did he answer? He said that we "should reduce Congress"!) Wow, what a kick in the head. Don't De-regulate, don't abolish the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), don't repeal the Endangered Species Act, (you know the law that gives enviros the power to stop drilling to save the "endangered creatures). This brawny, (well not so much anymore, said nothing about doing away with the Department of Energy that doesn't produce a single drop of oil, but they cost us millions a year,(maybe billions ) to fund. Nothing said about some of those Congressmen like Richard Nixon, who with his executive pen, created the EPA! In fairness to Chuck he did mentioned a "conspiracy" going on. He said let's forget about the spotted owl but I didn't hear him mention doing away with the bureaucracy. Here's the video link:<a class="user" href="http://www.comcast.net/data/fan/html/popup.html?v=767756022&pl=767953951.xml&plc=767953951&launchpoint=Cover&cid=fancover&attr=default_headline&config=/config/common/fan/default.xml">http://www.comcast.net/data/fan/html/popup.html?v= ...</a>

What's truly asinine about Mr. Sarbanes' law is that what Enron did was already illegal. What's more, it was the market, not the government that brought them down. Investors were dumping their shares long before the SEC figured out that they were cooking their books. So, what do our intrepid legislators do? They punish every other publically-traded company, which creates powerful incentives for companies to incorporate outside of the USA, and list their shares on the London, Frankfurt, or other foreign exchanges. Great for those countries, not very good for this one.-jcr
