@HortnonI don't know if it is a 'weak' rationalization. No weaker than him stating that he believes in term limits but keeps running again year after year. The man understands thet the rules of the game are not as fair as he'd like but he doesn't get to play in a fair game, he has to play in the game at hand and in the game at hand, you play by the already established rules no matter what you think they should be. You try to get the best endgame based on your position. You could claim he would serve his principles better by not being in politics at all and mounting a one man protest but that gets you nowhere. Are there shades of hypocricy there, sure, shades but not enough to credibly label the man a hypocrite. Ron Paul is the about least shady man in congress.
I'd honestly like to persuade the american people to become more educated about their rights and not blindly accept the claims of authority out of fear of thier might.Quite honestly 9/11 was blown out of propotion.3000 of us were murdered on that day and the cowardice of the men who did that will always disgust me.I think in our blind anger towards those who hurt us, we may have overreacted. was what america has become worth it? Did it help us in the end or hurt us?I think in order to address the terrorist threat we must Communicate with our enemies and try to avoid blowback from things like ....puting our bases on sacred muslim holy land and offending them....oh but I forgot, if I deviate form the idea that all muslums must die then I:Am anti-AmericanDon't support the troopAm a terrorist loverEtc.....So to answer your question, I would start by restoring good will among domestic residents by returning thier privacy and removing the threat of big brother thereby reducing the chances of domestic terrorism (Think Oklahoma City) and trying to be a little less arrogant in our foriegn policy
@Bilabrin: "BE HONEST!" That may be asking a bit much of Hortnon.@Hortnon: I would love to see some nuanced intellectual honesty which thus far has not been indicated.
1. The argument for the medal fails for two reasons: He's voted for other medals in the past, and the payment for the medal was from the sales of the medals - Not taxpayer funds. It's right there in the bill.Bringing up the Austin NAACP guy is like saying "I'm not racist, look at my black friend!"2. For We the People and Sanctity of Life, plus DOMA, I can't buy his argument. The very point of Roe v Wade, for example, is not letting states restrict or control abortion in any way. So what it protects is both the right to get one and the right to not get one - IE, if WTP or SOL were passed, a state could MANDATE abortions potentially. For DOMA, that law explicitly removes rights and legislates marriage at a federal level, which should be the very thing he claims to be against. For his thoughts on the matter, see my submission + comment herehttp://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Ron_Paul_explain ...
