I agree. I am against taxing any of it in any form. However, decriminalizing it all would be much better than legalizing it since if you legalize it the government will want to get their grubby little hands on any profits made from the sales. I also believe it would be much easier to decriminalize than to legalize since the gov't would want to regulate the hell out of it if legalized & i think decriminalizing all drugs for that matter would be much more palatable to the general public than legalization of all illicit drugs.

"clarify 'violently forbidden' and 'everything' - Too much of anything is bad for us (or so they say) I don't wish to talk in such general terms. A lot of things are not black and white, mind altering drugs with bad side effects are though - they should be banned.By violently forbidden, I mean no-knock raids by plain-clothed officers on the homes of otherwise law-abiding citizens for the simple possession of a reasonably harmless plant. By everything, I mean everything. Of course, you're willing to allow the "mind altering drugs with bad side effects" that are approved by the government, right?"My gran suffers with depression mainly from lonleyness after my grandads passing and a large part because her body is a lot more fragile than it used to be. Her mind is her strong point, the solution is far from drugging her up."Have you ever tried weed? I'm not really inclined to search through the thread to see if you said one way or the other. It really seems like you're overestimating the effects on one's brain in moderate amounts."The fact that you think a policy that once failed couldn't work today is idiotic even by your standards. Times have changed, people are better educated. Is it a major shock that in the 60's people wanted more drugs."Is the current policy going to magically start working all the sudden? It didn't work with alcohol because when you tell someone they can't have something, they want it more. This creates a criminal element out of otherwise law-abiding people. Sending decent people to prisons to hang out with murderers and rapists doesn't really seem like the best thing for our society. People are better educated. That's why more and more people are calling for an end to prohibition. The "reefer madness" is wearing off."The policy hardly reinforced."That almost made me spit out my beer. The vast majority of the 3 million Americans in prison are in there for non-violent drug offenses."More importantly the next generation of kids would suffer because they wouldn't have grown up in a decent environment, they would be far more likely to be hooked on drugs..."You're just messing with me, right? You think that a little pot would ruin the environment that children are raised in? I think it's more harmful to a child to be removed from his family and placed in foster care because his parents are in jail for possession. It happens. It's destructive and stupid."Millions are dying and more are suffering through drug related issues than any other problem in the modern worlds."The vast majority of that suffering is caused by drugs being illegal rather than the effects of the drugs themselves. Prohibition of drugs forces people who want them to deal with drug dealers. Legalization takes the power away from the dealers and violent cartels. Prohibition gave Al Capone all his power just like it gives his contemporaries all their power. Beyond that, the legal issues faced by people who break the unconstitutional laws (especially combined with unavoidable exposure to real criminals in prison) can ruin lives more easily than some marijuana.

Prohibition sucks! It's time for people to take responsibility for themselves, this quote from the post says it all'I wouldn't even bother taxing it. People have the right in a free country to make important decisions on their own lives. If they want to make mistakes, they can. They just can't come crawling to the government to get bailed out or taken care of if they get sick.'

He may be "an old bastard" now, but he sounded the same way in 1988. I know. I voted for him that year.

The debate on marijuana continues on ever since it became more and more popular over the decades. Since certain states are legalizing marijuana use in specific amounts there has been a lot of arguments between different groups of people. I think that if you were to only use it in your home or for medicinal purposes, there should not be such a big problem about it. If the sale of this plant is regulated by the government then fewer people would be likely to buy it illegally and sell it. The marijuana issue is similar to the prohibition era because so many people use it and cannot have access to it because of legal issues. It really would help the economy to have marijuana legalized in all states but with certain restrictions because it would likely help the economy, especially for California. It really is not fair to arrest people who use marijuana for medical purposes to alleviate pain caused by cancer or glaucoma. They are not selling it and are only using it to live a reasonably comfortable life without constant pain. I am really surprised thought that a conservative such as Ron Paul would be promoting the use of marijuana since more liberals tend to have this view. I would think that eventually, sometime in the near future, more and more states will legalize the use of marijuana.
