youtube.com— "Jumps the length of a football field (more than 300 feet) to set a new motorcycle distance jumping world record."

I watched this the other night and while it was awesome to see him go so damned far, (he was really cooking too going into the takeoff - 94+ mph) it was also kind of lame at the same time using that huge landing ramp. The actual horizontal distance he traveled may have exceeded 310 ft but the point at which his tires landed was also quite a bit higher vertically than his take off point. Doesn't this mean that the linear distance should be reduced by subtracting the horizontal differences between the takeoff and landing points? It was cool to watch but it just comes down to simple physics - speed + angle = distance traveled. I mean, you can get just about anything to go that far if you launch it at the right angle and put enough energy behind it.Maybe he just made it seem way too easy but there really wasn't much drama to this whole event. I remember watching Evel do his jumps on Wide World of Sports back in the 70's and there was way more excitement when he did it.
Big E.K. also had a bike that weighed like your civic, was double the size and half the power than this bike... so don't compare jumps too much... technology has really moved on.

Your point being that people should only try to do things that are physically impossible?
